Image and Memory

Image and Memory

Autor: Wendy Watriss , Lois Parkinson Zamora ,

Número de Páginas: 450

FotoFest 1992, a major festival of international photography, brought Latin American photography into focus for a wide audience. Offering a diverse selection of photographers, countries, artistic movements, and subject matter, the show revealed a photographic tradition rich in history and creativity. Drawing from the more than 1,000 images exhibited by FotoFest, this book documents the work of fifty-two photographers from ten countries. The photographs range from the opening of the Brazilian frontier in the 1880s to a secret archive of documentary images from El Salvador's recent civil war to works of specifically aesthetic intent. Many of the photographs appear here in print for the first time. Watriss's opening essay provides the curatorial overview for the book. Lois Zamora examines the roots of visual image-making in Latin American cultures. Boris Kossoy addresses the history of Latin American photography through the nineteenth century, while Fernando Castro covers the contemporary scene. With its compelling images and English-Spanish text, this book will serve as a benchmark for future studies of photography in Latin America.

Autor: Andrew Einspruch ,

Número de Páginas: 32

A good way to make money is to think of something to sell that will make you a profit. Opening a lemonade stand during summer can make you a profit if you keep track of the costs of the ingredients and the amount of money you will charge for each glass. If you add ice to the lemonade, you can sell more glasses because there will be less lemonade in each glass. Adding different ingredients such as blueberries will make your lemonade more appealing, and you may be able to sell more!

Fotografía creativa de paisaje

Fotografía creativa de paisaje

Autor: Harold Davis ,

How does an artist respond to the horrors of war and the genocide of his or her people? Can art play a role in the fight for justice? These are key questions for understanding the work of Guatemalan photographer Daniel Hernández-Salazar. Since the 1980s, Hernández-Salazar has created both documentary and aesthetic works that confront the state-sponsored terrorism and mass killings of Guatemala's long civil war (1962-1996). His photographic polyptych (4-panel image) "Clarification" became the icon for the Recovery of Historical Memory project of the Archbishopric of Guatemala, as well as a rallying symbol for Guatemalans. Broadening his crusade for justice in the twenty-first century, Hernández-Salazar is now also using the shouting angel of his polyptych (entitled "So That All Shall Know") to challenge the forgetting and/or erasure of painful history in many parts of the world, including Mexico, Japan, the United States, Canada, and Argentina. So That All Shall Know is a powerful, comprehensive overview of the work of Daniel Hernández-Salazar on recent Guatemalan history. Portfolios of images present his early photojournalistic work documenting the Guatemalan genocide; his...

Contemporary Fashion Photographers

Contemporary Fashion Photographers

SPECIAL KINDS OF PHOTOGRAPHY. Fifty contemporary, cutting-edge photo-graphers open our eyes to the magical artificiality embraced by fashion photography today: chronicling the very processes of fashion, fashion photography is like fashion itself - it celebrates the immediate, the frivolous and the ephemeral. The striking images in this book playfully flirt with superficiality as readily as they take on the more established aesthetic conventions of art photography. Ingrained with paradox and contradiction fashion photography mirrors the moods and desired of the moment. And more: self-referential as it is by nature, it is able to appeal not only to the eye, but also to the mind, questioning the very limits of desire, meaning and representation. Frivolously fabulous fashion at its best.
