En el año 1548, el cronista Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo (1478-1557) concluyó la redacción del Libro de la Cámara Real del príncipe don Juan, un breve tratado en el que se hace memoria acerca de la organización interna por la que se rigió la casa del príncipe don Juan (1478-1497), primogénito y único hijo varón de los Reyes Católicos. Inédita desde 1870, la obra se ofrece ahora en una edición crítica anotaba y precedida de estudio, que toma como testimonios los dos manuscritos autógrafos conservados. A lo largo de sus páginas, inicialmente dedicadas al futuro Felipe II, Fernández de Oviedo -testigo de cuanto narra y describe- brinda al lector de hoy la posibilidad de compartir el pulso de la vida cotidiana en la corte del príncipe destinado a heredar, por vez primera, las coronas de Aragón y Castilla.
